Jacob Wetterling

The long search behind the Wetterling Act

Eleven-year-old Jacob Wetterling was abducted while returning from a store with his brother and a friend in 1989. In 2016, Danny Heinrich admitted abducting and killing him and led investigators to his remains. The admission came through a federal plea agreement, rather than a murder conviction.
