Jasper “Jack” Watkins

An unidentified victim and a long-running financial deception

Jasper “Jack” Watkins was killed in 1996, but authorities did not identify his remains until 2003. That identification helped expose a financial scheme involving Nancy Siegel, who had used his identity and continued collecting his benefits after his death. A federal jury convicted her of second-degree murder-witness tampering and multiple fraud offenses in 2009, and she received a 400-month sentence. Snapped follows the investigation; the federal announcements document the verdict and punishment.

Federal verdict in the Jack Watkins case

The official verdict announcement explains the identity-theft scheme, the delayed identification of Watkins and the offenses decided by the jury. It also records an acquittal on one bank-fraud count, preserving the distinction between charges and convictions.

Nancy Siegel sentenced to 400 months

The federal sentencing release records Siegel’s prison term, supervised release and restitution order. Its account of the trial evidence helps connect Watkins’s murder to the fraud prosecution; the page is a dated official announcement, not a current prison locator.
