Joseph “Joe” Andriano

A homicide investigation amid a terminal illness

Joseph “Joe” Andriano was living with a serious cancer diagnosis when he was killed in the family’s Ahwatukee apartment in October 2000. The investigation examined poisoning evidence, emergency calls and Wendi Andriano’s account of the night. She claimed self-defense at trial; a jury convicted her of first-degree murder in 2004. The Arizona Supreme Court affirmed her conviction and death sentence in 2007. The linked opinion separates the evidence, defense arguments and appellate findings.
