A Texarkana killing and a disputed appeal
Patricia “Patti” Wheelington was killed at her Texarkana home in December 2013. The investigation focused on Virginia Hyatt, whose husband had been involved with Wheelington, and tested her account against surveillance and other circumstantial evidence. A Miller County jury convicted Hyatt of capital murder in 2016, bringing a life-without-parole sentence. Arkansas’s Supreme Court affirmed in 2018, with two justices dissenting.
